As the day’s become colder and darker, it’s not easy to find the right motivation to get it done. But there is always something inside us that pushes us to move on. To finally, press the start button.
You might feel shitty on your very first meters, but then your heart rate is increasing, your cadence is at the right rhythm, and you begin to feel it again. Sometimes it will take some more time to get it; sometimes, it’s there from your very first steps. And sometimes you miss this feeling for a very long time… the flow…
Getting into a flow is one of the best feelings every sportsperson and every athlete can get. It’s a vacuum between effort and effortless – you are not feeling any struggle to keep the pace – you think you could own this pace forever. You are in the moment, and everything that counts is just the thing you are doing right now. You are fully aware of every detail around you – but nothing can stop you from moving on.
One of my favorite sessions is when you are out for a very long time. I am talking about the long runs, the long rides, and that kind of stuff. Especially, in the long run, I can really get to know my body.
You never thought at the beginning, “How could this easy speed have an impact on me.” But at some point, every meter needs more and more energy to get it done, which fascinates me. This state of exhaustion and the inner motivation of “keep going” needs a totally different intrinsic motivation than just pushing the start button. Maybe it’s the same thing that motivates you to press the start button to keep going right now. Perhaps it’s just the thing that drives us to do the sport, the same thing that motivates us to push the start button to the next training session, the same thing that let us keep going..
the same thing that makes me smile during an exhausting long run… to finally push again!
